Sitting in the Aisle
It's kinda like getting an e-mail from John about what movie he just saw, well, kinda, sorta.

Casino Royale (Film)
This Bond film feels like it's a Bond for the new millennium, a 21st century James Bond. This Bond film is so different from most of the others that have proceeded it by breaking the typical formula the Bond films have followed since Goldfinger. And it works. I like who they selected for the new Bond. He's tough and is able to handle the quiet moments and the bombastic action equally well. Well worth seeing. As a Bond movie, this gets a solid A.

Stranger than Fiction (Film)
An enjoyable romantic comedy that examines how the choices we make can feel pre-determined and asks us how much control we really have over our lives. Maggie Gyllenhaal turns in a standout performance and really shines with an equally matched low key Will Ferrell. Both make a winning couple. I liked the self-examination Ferrell goes through to determine the type of story he’s in and the type of person he is and wants to be. Parts of the story are a tad wonky and doesn’t really answer how the book character became self-aware and is able to co-exist outside the realm of fiction. The audience is supposed to just take for granted and just run with it. Overall a warm affectionate comedy worth seeing. A solid B.

The Prestige (Film)
A lot better than The Illusionist, but did we really need two films about magicians set at the turn of the 20th century? And Christian Bale has got to lighten up, perhaps a romantic comedy or something else in which he might crack a smile without looking all psycho. Because this came so quickly at the heels of the other, I dropping the grade to a B-.
