Sitting in the Aisle

It's kinda like getting an e-mail from John about what movie he just saw, well, kinda, sorta.

Tim Burton's nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D (Film)

A favorite film of mine. I love the songs and have listened to the soundtrack many times. The 3-D effect was a subtle, but a welcome addition to the film. It's nice seeing this one in the theaters again. I'm giving this a A.

Marie Antoinette (Film)

The film is long, a hair over two hours, and feels long. Not much happens; she's bored, tries on clothes, throws parties, oblivious to the world at large. I remember shots, lots of them, of fancy desserts and shiny, fancy fabric. All in all a disappointment and most deserving of a D.

Gilmore Girls: Season 6 (DVD)

It's always fun to catch up with the Gilmore gals to see what's up. This particular season was notable for the separation between Lorelai and Rory at the beginning of the season and the escalating romantic tension between Lorelai and Luke on their impending wedding. Not wanting to give anything anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see who did get married this season. A strong year and perhaps their last best year as the creator and primary writer, Amy Sherman-Palladino, is now no longer with the show.

The Departed (Film)

Astonishing, easily the best thing I've seen all year. It's been so long I've seen a movie this good, I'm at a loss for words. I think the last time I saw a movie this well executed was Capote from last year. I'm finally reminded how good these actors can be and why director Scorsese is so highly regarded. I almost forgot this is a remake of the Hong Kong Infernal Affairs. Well worth seeing.
